Sarah Brown is a Scottish charity law specialist and the founder of Sarah Brown Charity Law WS. With over 20 years’ experience, she is one of only eight solicitors in Scotland accredited as a Specialist in Charity Law by the Law Society of Scotland.
Sarah was formerly a Partner at J & H Mitchell WS, where she led the Charities and Communities Team. She advises charities on establishing, modernising and restructuring their legal and governance frameworks, and is known for delivering clear, practical advice tailored to the realities faced by trustees and senior leaders.
She acts for a wide-ranging portfolio of charities across multiple sectors and has extensive experience in charity governance. Sarah regularly delivers training for charities, speaks at sector events, and leads webinars on charity law and governance. She also serves on the boards of three charities and contributes to working parties on charity law and regulatory reform.
Sarah currently leads the WS Society Charity and Third Sector Special Interest Group and is a member of the Law Society of Scotland Wellbeing Steering Group, where she works with fellow advocates to influence the profession’s approach to wellbeing and to promote best‑practice support for solicitors.
Sarah’s deep understanding of the charity law landscape, combined with her commitment to strong governance and sustainable leadership, makes her a trusted adviser to charities of all sizes.
