Empowering Charity Trustees and Leaders with Essential Knowledge 

Our tailored charity training sessions cover a wide range of topics.

In planning any session we will request to meet with you beforehand to discuss the format and understand more about your organisation, its background, current strategy, and any challenges – doing so ensures the session is relevant and tailored to the specific needs of the organisation and its board.

Our view is that such training is equally essential for those employed in charity leadership roles, in particular those who are new to the third-sector or who have not had training previously. Staff are very welcome to attend a session with the charity trustees, or we can deliver a session to either or both separately.

Sessions will commonly include the following topics:

  • Explanation of Legal Structure
  • The ‘Charity Test’
  • Leadership and Legal Duties
  • Delegation and Governance v. Operations
  • Conflicts of Interest
  • Exercising Control (Policies, Procedures, Risk Management)
  • Effectiveness
  • Learning from Scottish Charity Regulator Inquiries and Case Studies
  • Trading
  • Legal and Regulatory Update

We will collaborate closely with you to identify specific training needs and agree an agenda of topics beforehand.

Flexible Delivery Options: Our training sessions can be delivered in-person, online, or as tailored pre-recorded modules, providing flexibility to suit your organisation’s needs. 

Charity Trustee/CEO Induction: We can also work with you to develop a training package for new Trustees or Senior Leaders as part of their induction. This can take different forms to suit your organisation, such as:

  • Delivering a tailored ‘live’ presentation as part of induction, covering essential areas.
  • Preparing a pre-recorded tailored presentation.
  • Preparing a tailored presentation and providing training ‘in-house’ for delivery.

Charity Seminar Events: At least once a year we hold an in-person Charity Seminar in Perthshire available for the public to attend, at no charge. This can be a popular choice for many organisations in order to benefit from refresher training, and/or as part of an induction for individuals who are new to charity governance and management.
